The Whistle & Flute brand is based on the contrast and melding of masculine and feminine. Exquisite femininity is underscored by a boisterous and defined proportion. The sharp line of the 1960’s London gangster meet the sexy femininity of Anita Pallenberg and come across the pond for some real schooling in urban costuming. The blend of masculine and feminine in the line gives a thoughtful and considered edge rather than just fashion for its own sake.
Yoon Chang came to New York from Toronto to study at the prestigious Parsons The New School of Design where she was plucked out of her graduating class to be part of the Cynthia Steffe design team. During college, she studied abroad in Paris and England where she learned in-depth the couture/fantasy side of fashion; skills she later applied to her New York sensibilities. While at Cynthia Steffe she met Je-Won Hwang, the former Merchandising Director. Having different skill sets, yet always appreciating each other’s aesthetic, they launched out on their own and founded Whistle & Flute in 2007.
